Beritapers.my.id _|| The Dutch football star will try to bring Indonesia back to the FIFA World Cup after an absence of around 88 years. Patrick Kluivert has been chosen as the new coach of Indonesia following the dismissal of Shin Taeyong earlier this week, the Indonesia FA (PSSI) announced on Wednesday.
The Dutchman, who played for the likes of Ajax and Barcelona during a stellar playing career, previously led Curacao in his only international job from 2015 to 2016, with spells as assistant of the Netherlands and Cameroon either side.
“PSSI has officially appointed Patrick Kluivert as the new coach of the Indonesian National Team,” PSSI wrote on their official website. “The Dutch coach has been contracted for two years from 2025 to 2027 with an option to extend the contract.
Kluivert will be supported in the dugout by fellow Dutchmen Alex Pastoor and Denny Landzaat, with the trio set to be unveiled to the public on Sunday, 12 January.
The Garuda, who haven’t played at the global finals since France 1938 as Dutch East Indies, currently sit third in Group C of AFC FIFA World Cup™ 26 qualifying, one point behind Australia in the automatic qualification positions. Kluivert’s opening game comes against the Socceroos in Sydney on 20 March, before they host Bahrain in Jakarta five days later.(*)
